Routerboard 230 New os install problem.

Have RB230 running 2.8 still
it works but would like to update it to new OS version.
Unlike the new 8 digit licenses it is still only 7 and has a date that says only good till oct/1/2005

from what I read it can be update .. the license can be upgraded , after I ran a net install and got it up to 3.3 or 4.17

I have tried a net install and the device gets the the BOOTP ip address but never shows up in the netinstall app .

The device is old. so Its not really worth paying for a new license.
is there a way to get an updated license key.. or should I just throw the device away?

THanx

first update your licence key.

/system licence
and click in “update licence key”

and then

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Upgrading_RouterOS

I don't have the option update-license-key... below are the options..
I tried the update-key option and it gives an error.

See below

import Import a key file
output Exports the current key to a key file
loose-key
print Show license information
get Gets value of item's property
update-key Request a free update of your existing key to the
version's 2.8 one
new-upgrade-key Request a new key
