Routerboard as bandwidth measurement instrument

Can one use a routerboard as a bandwidth test measurement instrument to test the supported bandwidth over a point to point connection (either a passive optical fiber or copper link or a signal routing over multiple active hops/devices) ??
I.e. a passive multiple optical fiber hops over racks using sfp+/qsfp end-to-end capable routerboards ?
Is the native bandwidth test tool a reliable method ?
Which hardware is suggested ?

Thank you.

Can one use a routerboard […]
Why not?

Is the native bandwidth test tool a reliable method ?
Yes, but only if the device have enough CPU power. I never use “switch” to do that tests.
