Could you please help me with the following situation:
I have two similar RB951Ui-2HnD’s, I configured one and made a backup, I restored this backup on the second router.
Both routers are running 6.40.4 with the Hotspot package before running the restore on the second router.
At first it seemed fine, apart from the wlan interface getting renamed to wlan2.
I figured I renamed it back, reset the configuration to default and try again, but instead it got worse.
It removed all my wlan interfaces, DHCP Server, DHCP Client, basically all default router packages.
Okay, so now what? I tried to reset the origional factory RouterOS by holding the reset button, but this made it even worse.
RouterOS is installed, I can connect to it using WinBox, but all version information is missing.
This means I cannot install or upgrade RouterOS or any packages.
I have added the IP-Address and DNS manually, so it can access the internet through ether1.
Is there someone who knows how to fix this?
Please find the attached screenshot.
If the above does not help, then use NetInstall to recover your router.
Second, learn how backup and restore work, and how to move configuration between devices: https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Configuration_Management
In short: never use backup/restore to copy configuration from one device to another. Use /export instead.
I resetted the router using /system reset-configuration, and after that failed, I tried the reset button (releasing when the ACT LED started flashing approx. 5 seconds).
I will try NetInstall instead, see if that helps, I will let you know a.s.a.p.
[UPDATE]:
I have tried NetInstall, it could find the router and the package (see attachment).
My laptop’s ethernet set to 10.1.1.10 and Net Booting in the NetInstall tool set to 10.1.1.5 (as descriped in the manual).
But after I clicked on “Install”, it just waited, and after a few seconds the status returned to Ready, it didn’t go to “waiting reboot”.
When I clicked on the router again to figure out if I missed something, the License Key was gone.
Could you advice in this?
And I have read somewhere that export might cause problems when you have Hotspot or UserMan packages installed, is this still the case?
Or does it still work, if you make sure the Hotspot package is installed before running the rsc file?
I have never heard of either HotSpot or User Manager causing any problems with export. Though please take into account that /export only exports the configuration of your router. The User Manager database, The Dude database, hotspot HTML files (as well as any other files you may store on your router) must be backed up separately.
The first time I encountered this issue was with a broken default config installed.
I tried a new second router, this time fresh factory default configuration.
I go to system → packages.
Click on check for updates and download and install the newest.
I did not touch the router during installation, and when I log back in… RouterOS corrupted.
No version information to be found, no additional packages, no way to fix it.
Can someone please assist and help me find the cause of this?
I should be able to update RouterOS, with or without a config…
