self-construct spectrum analyzer

Hi all.
I know, it coud be a stupid question.
But: could I build a simple spectrum analyzer using a routerboard and a radio like R52 ?

I could imagine this:

  • a software using api
  • set the band/frequency of the radio
  • measure signals levels
  • got to next band/frequency step
  • the software show the results

I could think about some problems:

  • it could be very slow
  • the radio could not be setted to the frequency 5.431.123.456 Hz but only use discrete channels.
  • the radio could not probe other signals than 802.11 modulated

My question is: is it possibile ?

Thanks.

the mentioned problems are valid right now, so you are better off using the Snooper/Frequency Usage tools in Winbox, which already provide with you with the same functionality

Hi..

But we found that, it only can scan the wireless equipment which running on the AP mode.

For those AP ↔ CPE running on the wds (like Zcom), you are not able to detect which frequency it running on.
