Hi,
hope you all are fine. I am just wondering if anyone can help me with this issue.
I am running a Mikrotik rb751 in my hotel and I use it as a hotspot.
I do only have one username and password configured, and all of my guest are using the same username.
I have 2000 shared users.
So when the hotel is full, I get the message above.
Can someone explain how I can get around this problem.
For example, what do I have to do to get more than 500 maximum sessions to work?
If you run hotel services with low cost RB751 for 2000 guest … you are brave man … do you think that it has enough capabilites?
No worries, the hotel only has 140 guests
So I can just purchase a new license and this is it?
Can you also recommend me a mikrotik router which works fine for a hotel with 14o people each guest using about 2 devices?
User Manager limit is number of active sessions, not number of named users. Indeed , 24 users with 2 devices, for license level 5. (Wifi Roaming action requires one free session also)
Yep, that’s the one I use. I removed the wifiwave2 drivers for extra storage/memory. (hAP ax3 is in a cabinet, not used for wifi). It is not really needed to remove the drivers because User Manager is a light application. I added USB storage for the User Manager database.
The RB1100Dx4 https://mikrotik.com/product/RB1100Dx4, would be a valid low cost candidate too, and has the extra storage already build in. (With DUDE you also have a SYSLOG server, to collect all logging from the AP’s).
Why are you using hotspot if everyone shares the login? You could make an SSID with WPA2/WPA3 and give the guests that password instead. No worries about licenses or session limits.
Every legal person (family) has their own login username/password.
This is mandatory in France if you offer public wifi. You must be able to point to the responsible person, or you are responsible for what has been done via your wifi connection.
The ISP does the same, but cannot differentiate between devices behind the NATting gateway.
