SFP module for hEX S(2025) <-> Nokia G010G-D

Hi everyone,

My ISP provided me with a Nokia G-010G-D FTTH ONT, which has a 2.5GbE RJ45 port that I can use to connect my router.

I’d like to connect the ONT directly to the 2.5G SFP port on my MikroTik hEX S (2025) and use it as the WAN interface.

However, I can’t seem to find a MikroTik SFP module with a 2.5GbE RJ45 port that is compatible with the hEX S (2025).

Does MikroTik offer such a module, or is there a compatible third-party SFP module that I could use?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Send an inquiry to them about which one exactly to get. They have competent support in my experience.

If you want to plug in their fiber straight into the hex S without going to the ONT, you're gonna need an APC GPON Module.

If you want to use the SFP cage on your hex S to connect to the ONT itself via the Rj45, then you want an rj45 to sfp+ module. Which i wouldn't recommend because those get really really hot when in use, classic rj45 runs. At which point you just run a ethernet cable to one of your lan ports and call it day or buy a more capable router with a 2.5gig wan (rb5009ug or something close to it).

But if you do decide you want to do that, you can get https://mikrotik.com/product/s_rj10 from mikrotik. Or just any rj45 to SFP+ module from amazon should work (just make sure it supports 2.5gig as supported speeds obviously). 10gtek is usually very inexpensive and works wonders.

The OP explicitly asked for a 2.5G copper module to connect their ISP provided ONT. The RJ45 modules I linked certainly fit that bill.

@drotz Does the S_RJ10 -t hat is SFP+ - module work with hEX S (2025) that has a SFP [not SFP+] port?

It does work, they are backwards compatible.
Both modules you listed will work.

I am not 100% sure so I referred you to fs.com. They are generally considered the go-to address for everything fibre and/or SFP(+), QFP, ...

They operate in the EU and will ship locally. Just send them an email or use their web form if they have one (don't quite remember - contact info should be on the web site)

Their shipping costs if you don't spend to get free shipping are extortionate. Unless you order a lot of stuff at once from them its a daylight robbery.

They do have really quality stuff, don't get me wrong; i have a lot of fs.com stuff at home too

My last order was 22 € for two DAC cables plus 4.30 € shipping. (Germany)

As I wrote they have local warehouses in the EU and ship locally.

As i already said, Eu to Eu shipping was 10€ for me on a 65€ order. not everyone lives in germany.

The S-RJ10+ is not compatible, it needs a 10G sfp+ backend for all speeds > 1Gbe
The amazon one looks to be compatible.

It does seem i made an oopsie, it does indeed not support the 2.5 gig unless its a sfp+ cage, true.
