SFP Port on Switch Level VLAN

Trying this out on RB2011 and I just noticed that the SFP port is not in the Switch Port. How do you configure it for VLAN?

Are you sure it’s not there?

Mind that if you execute /interface ethernet switch port print, you won’t see interface names, but a numerical values and you have to correlate those numbers to interfaces by some other properties… this is extremely annoying, but it’s what we have. BTW, it’s fine to execute set sfp1 , just print hides the names …

Or you can take a look at the Network diagram, you can see clearly that the SFP port is connected to the Gigabit Switch…

Color me embarrassed! To my defense, how this really went down is:

  • Check RB3011 GUI on Switch Port menu, no SFP
  • Check RB3011 interface ethernet switch port printout, not there

  • Check RB2011 GUI on Switch Port menu, no SFP
  • Assume the RB2011 interface ethernet switch port printout is the same, and post it here. FAIL HARD.

Same question for the RB3011. From the network diagram I see that the SFP port is on the second switch. But shouldn’t that be in the list still?

RB3011 is different beast. Block diagram of RB3011UiAS-RM

shows that there are two interconnect lanes between CPU and switch chip … however, the second interconnect line gets re-routed from switch chip to SFP if SFP module is inserted. Which means that second switch chip has slower interconnect to CPU when SFP is in use.

Anyway, SFP is not handled by switch chip in RB3011. As the note at the bottom of block diagram clearly explains.

That makes sense. Thank you!

I had already posted a link to the network diagram on post #3..
Maybe i should have posted the picture instead…

One picture tells more than a thousand words. Specially to illiterate. But then you posted link to block diagram of 2011 … true it was before OP mentioned RB3011 as design taken as reference for all RB devices …

One picture tells more than a thousand words.

I ll have that in mind…
