should i enable wds?

Hi,

I am really having trouble understaning the whole WDS concept and would appreciate some help here…

I have a wireless network with about 10 towers, each having around 5 different ssid’s each. I would like to know if i would benefit if I had to enable WDS mode in dynamic, and ignore SSID on the towers, and enable it on the clients? Maybe also set a default-bridge for all the wds?

Would this help me at all regarding signal strenghts etc??

so you want to know if you will benefit from wireless mesh? :unamused:

well, basically, yes. enable wds as i mentioned and set a default bridge and that is that? what happens on the client side? currently they are in station mode connecting to an ap.

WDS itself is an option that allows your clients to connect to ur different ap’s without being disconnected from the previous one.

here’s how:

example:-
let’s say you have 5 AP-s all with same SSID … and you go around with ur laptop and you are connected to an AP .. so as you move around with ur laptop you change ur location … so u reach the second AP the moment when the first AP is not reachable … but when that happens you don’t notice because wds makes it possible to change AP’s in real time …
example you are chatting .. and traveling with a car let’s say when u can’t reach the 1st AP .. wds connects u to another AP .. and u don’t get disconnected from internet at all …
that’s is I hope I was clear …

p.s Note - WDS affects in bandwidth … if you are using wds options it cuts bandwidth for 40% … so you may consider that as well …

… in real life u don’t really need that …

greetz!!!
