SIgnal strength

Dear all

I have a system at home with a MikroTik hEX PoE - RB960PGS which is hooked up with 3 MikroTik cAP ac. I am having signal strength issues, just to give you an idea I am trying to connect a newly purchased smart tv to the network which is about 8 metres from one of the APs but the TV is stating that the connection is weak with only one bar lighting up and refuses to connect. The same thing happens when I try to connect a laptop. The TV and laptop work fine.

Could anyone assist please?

Regards

Duncan

It depends, 8 meters can be close or far away. Is this in the same room, or are there wall’s, objects, disturbing the signal?
Having enough signal on the client side, is just one of the prerequisites for making a connection. The AP must also have a good enough signal from the client, the Smart TV.
In Mikrotik, the wireless “Registration” is the place to look for signal strength and signal quality.
(“Detail mode” in WinBox registration table , or “/interface wireless registration print stats” in Terminal.)

It depends on the location in the room but it is possible for it to have a different signal strength.

for an example, my computer has a slightly stronger signal than my printer which is across the room.

the signal strength is affected by distance and the obstacles between the router and the device
