Slow performance on WAP ac

I am getting less than 100mbps on a 20/40MHz setup on wap ac.

In comparison if I plug back my older UAP AC Lite I can get over 200mbps on it, same 20/40Mhz setup, both have 2.4GHz disabled only 5GHz radios running.

Is this normal? Both of the APs cost nearly the same ($78 ish at Amazon).

To my understanding you simply assign an IP, I did 10.1.1.11, then created a bridge with eth1 and wlan2. Created the SSID and security, set it to 802.11 mode and wmm is enabled.

Again and Again, don’t buy Mikrotik for Wireless, its outdated.
Use Mikrotik for routing, ans nothing else…

Frequency on “auto”?! No possibility to say what you are getting. (No control over channels used and as such no control over the TX power)

Check “status” on WLAN interface and “registration” in wireless.
Signal strength, obtained ‘interface speed/bandwidth/# ofstreams/guard interval’.
With strength better than -55dBm, Interface speed should be 300 Mbps, dual stream, SGI. Throughput should be around 100 Mbps then, unidirectional.
(The wAP can do triple stream, but this also fully depends on the client, which mostly can’t.)

For 300Bbps throughput you will need 866Mbps interface speed. Better than -45dBm signal strength, 80 MHz bandwidth, dual stream, SGI, … and the UAC AP switched off (with any other interferer)
Security can only be WPA2/AES (no TKIP!) for these speeds.

I switched from Unifi to Mikrotik. Performance is decreased, but stability is increased. Really happy with my choice. Love the ability to configure…everything. Besides, with a well configured AP anyone can get over 400Mbps on wireless network.

I checked my config via unifi controller and I have it set to 40MHz for 5Ghz and 20Mhz for 2.4GHz but I disabled the 2.4GHz network on it and I didn’t setup 2.4GHz on the Mikrotik.

Ran the speedtests with the unifi unplugged then I unplugged the Tik and ran the test on the Unifi with only it plugged in. I speedtested from my Thinkpad P50 with Intel 8265 nic and on my Samsung Note 10+ which is rated all the way up to 802.11ax support.

Guess I’ll do the 80MHz on the Mikrotik.

Oh and I made sure to disable TKIP, only AES WPA2.

Wow you weren’t kidding. Switching from auto to 5745, and I left it at 20/40 instead of 80MHz but immediately saw an improvement.

Keep tuning!

Anything in the firewall connections? Disable connection tracking.
STP protocol mode on “none” in the bridge?
No hardware off-load on ether1?
Try to get to “Fast forward” … https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Interface/Bridge#Fast_Forward

Try to improve the speed by setting the distance. Double-click on the wireless interface and continue to advanced.
For example, write at distance 5 for 5 Km.
Enter a little more distance than the actual distance.
