Was anyone using this and know what’s happened to them?
I noticed today that after a ROS upgrade yesterday, I was no longer seeing the log entries for the daily schedule of the script to import the blacklists.
On further investigation to check if it was related to the upgrade, the script is failing to connect to the web server and visiting the homepage in my browser, it seems the site is down. My syslog search suggests it hasn’t been working for several days at least…
It would appear that the person who originally set up that site passed away last year. It would seem that whatever mechanisms were in place for updates of the blacklists were still proving effective, but something or someone has now taken the service offline, potentially for good.
Does anyone know of any equivalents out there still kicking around? I’ve seen a few other ‘projects’ referenced here that are no longer active…
Interestingly I note the following comment from the post below the one with lists…
“Depends what you want to blacklist. I’ve found from past experience that many blacklists are outdated and eventually block legitimate traffic, instead focus on securing your environment such that a blacklist of “bad IPs” is not needed.”
Both of them are much more than squib list type entities and you get what you pay for…
Another one I am aware and would be using if not using axiom is the following:
I’m aware of MOAB but believe it doesn’t support RB hardware as it doesn’t use dynamic lists and instead writes to disk (therefore significant wear on the flash)…
I’ll check out the other links, thanks.
It’s mostly been useful to reduce the amount of malicious hits on the mail server. It does run its own blacklisting, ‘anti-hammering’ etc, but seems more efficient to run at the FW level.
Guys, this is not good, this good man did a really good work so we mikrotik users can use it for free, but now he is gone and we are in trouble.
If someone finds spamhaust drop, etc lists which are mikrotik compatible, please comment it here.
And again, thank you Ben for the good work and RIP!
This seems a reasonable replacement, I’m testing it out on one of my units at the moment. Beyond copy & paste from the forum, I haven’t tried writing my own scripts… I’m trying to get the script to add a log on successful completion, but have tried a few variations found on the forum and wiki without success - can anyone help?
