Steps to configure CRS326-24S+2Q+RM as a L3 Switch wihtout Router-on-a-stick

Hi All,

I want to configure CRS326-24S+2Q+RM in the Layer 3 mode with HW offloading but without Router-on-a-stick configuration as explained in almost all the documents.

I want Inter-VLAN routing to be happening in the DRS326. I want to configure it using GUI as I am not familiar with command-line syntax of RouterOS.

As I am very new to the Mikrotik and RouterOS, kindly list all the steps from the beginning including connecting to the switch.

Thanks

I am new to the Mikrotik and RouterOS. I can configure the swict using Winbox or Webfig using GUI and not commandline.

Mostly the Gui is similar to the way the cli is laid out.
The switch menu is a bit different. It is a top level menu in the Gui.

Good because there is no reason to have three threads about your single device…

Pick one and stick with it and direct other readers to the single thread you choose!

Is it possible to create VLANs directly on the Switch Chip without creating a bridge?

Somebody said on forum to create another thread so i had to create

No, not on CRS3xx devices (if you want wirespeed operations).

I have created 3 VLANs without any L3 Inter VLAN.
As I dont want management VLAN my IP is assigned to Bridge Interface.
I have enabled Bridge VLAN filter. How to check If I getting the wire speed?

As, I was not able to do anything with my CRS326-24S+2Q+RM and RouterOS, not even the basic Access Port configuration with my existing core switch, atlast had started to read this tutorial http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/using-routeros-to-vlan-your-network/126489/1 Its mentioned in this tutorial, that unlike other vendors Mikrotik uses VLAN 0 as the Naitive VLAN. Is it true? Not even in my wildest of dreams, I would have thought, it will be so (why would somebody do something different other than establishment norms and not properly document it and highlight it?).

If it is true that CRS326 has VLAN0 as the Native VLAN, how can I adjust to this fact? Because, in my existing setup on all the switches, the Native VLAN is 1.
My HP core switch, to which this CRS326 will link to, and which will do Inter VLAN Routing, has also got VLAN 1 as the Native VLAN. My every configuration was going wrong because of this.

What should I do to adapt to this change in misconfiguration or should I better use SwOS and forget about L3 functionalities of my switch? Is it same with SwOS too?

Thanks

You have been told multiple times what to do, do not use vlan0 or vlan1 for anything.
Set your management vlan to anything but 1 or 0, like 99 for example.
All smart devices get their IP address on this vlan. PCUNITE and the Wilmers 3xx video (network trip on youtube) describe how to setup the mikrotik.

Somebody so called “Forum Guru” asked me to create another thread because the title did not suite the discussion so I have created the another thread.

RouterOS handles VLAN 1 just fine - but LOTS of other devices do not. Hence the recommendation to not use VLAN 1. In many cases other devices treat VLAN 1 as special and do interesting and usually undesired results with VLAN 1.

Yes, it is your fault. Just because you do not know how to use a very powerful operating system does not make it rubbish.

Also note that this is primarily a user to user forum. The vast majority of people here are users. We do not work for Mikrotik, we are not representitives of Mikrotik.

If you want help, start by posting your existing configuration and what your network looks like (a drawing is best if anything but extremely simple), and what you need to accomplish. That gives us something to work with.
To export and paste your configuration (and I’m assuming you are using WebFig or Winbox), open a terminal window, and type (without the quotes) “/export hide-sensitive file=any-filename-you-wish”. Then open the files section and right click on the filename you created and select download in order to download the file to your computer. It will be a text file with whatever name you saved to with an extension of .rsc. Suggest you then open the .rsc file in your favorite text editor and redact any sensitive information. Then in your message here, click the code display icon in the toolbar above the text entry (the code display icon is the 7th one from the left and looks like a square with a blob in the middle). Then paste the text from the file in between the two code words in brackets.

and the multiple threads about this switch keep on coming… http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/does-swos-work-in-the-wirespeed/177933/1

Will try to follow this advice. But my question is specific see above.

Again this fellow @anav has responded. Told number of times somebody asked me to create new thread, as the title did not meet the content, hence created another thread.

Get your facts straight, I keep telling you to stick to ONE THREAD, not create extra threads.

What kind of a person this @anav is? I am not saying the @nav has said to create another thread. Some another “Forum Guru” has said.
I dont understand why does @anav has to respond even if there are multiple threads. He is free to not to respond to any.

To be fair the proposal originally came from a “Member Candidate”.
Not that It makes much difference, the “Forum Guru” title is automatically assigned by the board when a member reaches a certain number of posts, it is sort of honorary/a sign of seniority.
Take me, as and example, I have it even if I know very little about Ros.
Let’s say that my verbosity made me a “Forum Guru”.
