Suggestion for Apartment unit

Hi guys…

I need some suggestions for, whats possible and what ain’t about this project, and a suggestion for which hardware you would use.

Demands for the project:

  • Highly functional and stable
  • High coverage
  • At least speed of +54 Mbps wireless.

Project description:
The project is about make a solution in a housing association with apartments in 6 floors, with about ~120 aparments spread in ~10 apartment entrance. They need a shared wireless solution, where all the apartment are being covered with the wireless signal inside the apartment. The housing association form are kinda rectangular, so I imaging AT LEAST 6 AP’s, one in each corner (which = 4), and 1 on each of the largest side in the complex:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

the size is about: 290x160x290x180 feet long.
As you can see, the green circles should indicate the range of the wireless, and the range that I have drawn is ~100 feet in diameter, and they even need a bigger coverage to cover it all, or maybe add 2 more APs.
Anyways, remember that the building is ~6 floors high!

So, what would you suggest to the solution?

  • Which hardware?
  • More APs?
  • About 1 AP for each floor in each apartment entrance?
  • would it ever be stable enough, without having cover issue and DCs?

I’m looking forward to hear what any of you with some more wireless experience than me have to say about this project  There is a lot of walls/floors that the wireless signal has to pass through to make a good user experience in a soltion like this.

I have many instalations like this.

You need to cover apartments with the far APs. The APs situated in the garden. You need to use sectors with 120 degrees and 14 dBi. You can cover 4 floor with APs at 120 foot (40-45 meters).

It depends on how are divided the apartments too.

With 14dBI panels, you can cover more floors too.
If you use l-com 4 dbi omni, you’ll get good results with high powee in the card.

You can use XR2 cards with regulated txpower.

I hope this helps!

Sounds like it’s more possible than I expected.
So how many APs do you think is needed to cover it all?

and do you have any links or model number to suggestion equipment?

With L com sectors. 120 degree vertical pol. and 14dBi.

Or with L-com 2414P or 14dBi itelite.

you can use wires for each AP or links with LOS at 5GHz, using WDS. Make all the network without routes and you can make a hotspot in a rb450G near the internet router.

Best way is to try with one AP/sector and look for results : D!

I have found that if you experiment with the setup a lot you will end up with better results. Patience is a virtue. I can’t count how many places I have went to with supposed wifi “Hotspots” that have terrible reception because whoever set it up didn’t physically configure the layout of the wifi network to optimal specs.
