Switching a relay with RB750UP POE

Hi Folks

Trying to remotely switch a 12V relay with a RB750UP POE out on spare port # 5
FW 6.21.1 POE FW 2.13 Device powered by 12V battery on DC jack.
Relay coil resistance is 240 Ohm.

Obviously can’t use auto-on as the relay impedance is not in 3K-26k range but I want to script control it anyway. Forced-on should work and sometimes does. If I apply forced-on and then plug the LAN in, the relay switches on normally. Device reports 51mA , 12V & 0.5W as expected. All good.
Then it intermittently switches off and reports short circuit and then comes back on again. Admittedly the resistance is low but then so is the current, how does it see a short circuit ?
If I apply forced-on with LAN already connected it goes straight to short circuit.

I have tried switching the ether1-poe-in-long-cable to yes which should disable short circuit detection on POE out ports. Makes no difference.

Any suggestions ?
