Upgrade from 7.1.5 to 7.9.2 stable bricked CRS326

Hello,

when I tried to upgrade our CRS326 from 7.1.5 to 7.9.2 stable, the router was immediately soft bricked after the upgrade.

After it didn’t start (totally dead) I restarted with the reset button pressed and the router started and showed 7.1.5.

What do I need to do to upgrade to the current stable version?

Thanks for your help.

Make sure that routerboot (/system/routerboard/) is upgraded fully before attempting to upgrade again. If upgrade fails regardless, then you will probably have to netiinstall the device. The reason might lie in history of your device. It’s known that sometimes successive ROS upgrades and configuration changes somehow mess with internal configuration and/or leave excess files in storage which make device unstable. This was in particular observed when device was upgraded from v6 to v7 (but doesn’t have to show after first upgrade to v7 series). Netinstall formats the built in storage and thus wipes all the problematic stuff.

If you do go down this path, I suggest you to configure your device from scratch. Restoring device from (binary) backup file seems to re-introduce the problematic part of configuration (making device unstable again), so use text export (/export show-sensitive file= and fetch resulting file off device) as reminder on what was done. But generally use v7 default config as base of the new configuration.

Thank you very much.

RouterBoard was/is fully upgraded.

So I guess I have to go down the NetInstall path.
