Upgrading CCR2004

Hi there,

I have a few CCR2004 with the following resources available:

However when trying to upgrade it to 7.17.2 I get the following log entry:
“upgrade failed, free 29 kB disk space for a (null)upgrade”

I have tried to do a manual upgrade by downloading the npk, but thats the same result, as if i use the package manager.

Anyone else have this issue? or might have a solution?
For me it seems like there is enough space, no other packages are installed, and there is no files.

looks like fix will come in 7.18

7.18beta change log shows this

*) system,arm - automatically increase boot part size on upgrade or netinstall (fixed upgrade failed due to a lack of space on kernel disk/partition);

if you can, wait for 7.18 to become stable version

I had a similar case. I couldn’t understand why the free space was too small, even though the free space should have been enough.

  1. I exported all config
  2. reset router to Factory default
  3. import all config and everything was ok. Update from ‘‘system-Packages’’… started working correctly

The internal configuration database handling seems to be as clear as mud. It seems to contain some kind of history but it seems that in certain cases it can be cleared.

My recent experience: hAP ac2, running 7.17 without wifi/wireless drivers, some 2.7MB flash free. Device did have it’s history of upgrades, but not much of configuration changes. At this point I created a binary backup file. Then I uploaded 4 longer address lists (without timeouts, so permanent and hence written in configuration database). Free space dropped to some 500kB. After a week or so, without further configuration changes, free storage space ran down to 0 (I mean…WTF?) … so I did a netinstall. Installed 7.17, uploaded binary backup, did 2 minor tweaks missing from backup (wrong interfaces referenced in /ipv6/nd settings) and created another binary backup. Size of backup file dropped from some 400kB to around 230kB. Go figure …

I tried with a 2004 with 7.15.3
it was missing 20kb of space… I reset to factory default,
I restored with import/export but dont upgrade.
A full netinstall with netinstall 7.18 is needed.


After further tests, I solved the issue upgrading first to 7.16.2 - 7.17.2 then 7.18.x with no issues.
The direct upgrade from 7.15.3 gave me the error.

I was able to fix this issue by repartitioning to 2 partitions, then it was able to upgrade successfully.

Can you please elaborate on how you modified these partitions?
EDIT: I found the information I was looking for. I’m getting a 500 error from the forum trying to delete this post.

Same problem here when upgrading CCR2004 from 7.12.1 to 7.19.3

Repartitioning didn’t help

Upgrading to 7.16.2 first, and then to 7.19.3 worked fine

I ended up having to netinstall the one 2004 I had that exhibited this issue. No amount of software updates/downgrades fixed it.

Fortunately it was able to “keep old configuration” and the upgrade worked flawlessly.

Remove the wireless package on 2004 if you have it (routers were on version 7.15.1) update to 7.16.2 manually (npk is in software->dowload archives on mikrotik.com) then to 7.17.2 and you can go to 7.19.4 (or higher) as normal.
