Upgrading Router OS from 2.9.51 to 3.3

I am attempting to bring an older router up to current version and am having trouble upgrading to 3.3.

I have ftp’ed all of the 3.3 files into the root directory. When I reboot the router, the version remains the same, and all but one of the files are deleted from the FTP Root.

Model 133C3
Current Firmware 2.12
Upgrade Firmware 2.12
software-id "1LCN-3TT
upgradable-to v3.x
nlevel 3

anyone have any ideas why I cant get the upgrade to work on reboot?

check in the log. when it reboots it should tell you the reason it decided not to install the packages

Also just double check that you have the mipsle packages as I believe the 100 series boards were little endian.

First step:
Upgrade to 3.30 http://www.mikrotik.com/download/all_packages-mipsle-3.30.zip
upload .npk file. NOT zip file in root menu

then upgrade routerboot:
/system routerboard upgrade
/system reboot

then update licence → click to Update licence key (in menu licence)

now you can upgrade to 5.25 http://download2.mikrotik.com/routeros/5.25/routeros-mipsle-5.25.npk

I have had previous problems when upgrading and skipping a version in the middle.

I would advise upgrading to 4.17 first before 5.25 unless you are happy to blow it away and in that case maybe netinstall it.
