Currently I’m using RB2011UiAS-IN for different tasks: Router, NAT, Firewall, Web Proxy, VPN Server (PPTP) for now about 30 PPTP connections, Two WAN (100Mbps) Load Balancing, some Mangle rules. The router behaves well but very soon, in about 3 weeks the PPTP connections will grow to about 500-600 connections and I’m sure RB2011UiAS-IN will not handle this in a proper way so I’m thinking of upgrading to CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, I would like to know if this board will suit my needs?
RB2011UiAS-IN is definitely a SOHO type of device so an upgrade is necessary. The amount of PPPTP connections is not that important (though if I’m not mistaken it’s limited in the software by the licencenses), the amount of traffic that will pass through that connections is what will strain your hardware. You can check the datasheed of CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+ for more details: http://routerboard.com/CCR1009-8G-1S-1Splus
To me the CCR is quite a capble device, given that it has multicore processor.
