UPS module freezes

Hello Everybody,

Im facing issues with the UPS module. My UPS is connected to router via USB cable, port name is usbhid1. My problem is, that the communication between the UPS and the router stops refreshing data after few minutes. It even does not catch power outages (i pull out the UPS power cable from the socket, UPS works on battery, but RB keeps telling me that everythings fine, we are online). It`s pretty much useless this way.

When the connections frozen, I must disable and reenable the UPS in WinBox. Then it works for few minutes again. As a workaround ive written a script that checks the return values of the UPS module once a minute. If the values don`t chage for 3 minutes, i assume that the connection is frozen and disable / reenable the ups. This workaround works, but things should not work this way.

My question are: Is this a common issue, or there is some issue in my HW? Are there any additional settings, that can avoid this problem? Can this constant disabling / enabling do any harm to my RB or to my UPS? (it`s about 200 - 300 disables/enables per 24 hours).

Routerborad: RB3011UiAS, ROS 6.49.15
UPS: APC Back-UPS BX750MI

Thanx for any answers,
Keso

That’s not normal behaviour. I’m using UPS module on several locations where I have APC UPSes and never experienced such a problem.

Did you check your USB cable ? Maybe there is a problem with that.

If you can, create supout.rif file when UPS module freezes and open a ticket with support.

Hello, thanx for your answer.

The USB cable is brand new, it was bundled with the UPS. But i will try another one. Currently i dont have any Windows computer (all of my computers are running Linux), but Ill get one and Ill try the UPS with the WIN SW provided by APC. May be that the problem is in the UPS itself. If the WIN SW will work fine, Ill try to post a ticket.

So ive tried multiple USB cables with the same result, the UPS monitoring freezes after few minutes. Then i tried my UPS with PowerChute software installed on my laptop and it works OK. It works OK with my NAS as well. So the bug must be somewhere in the RB. Ive openened a ticket (bug report) in the mikrotik support page with supout.rif file attached.

On 7.15.2 I don’t have any problems so it must be something on ROS v6
