USB LTE stick disappear

I have opened a support case for my new RB5009 (PoE version).

Plugging a USB LTE stick ( k5160 ), it works for some hours, then it disappears.
Using the USB Power reset function, some time works and the LTE stick appears again, but other time there is no way…
Uplugging and plugging again… no effect.

When I experience this issue, before rebooting, if I unplug the LTE card and plug something else, such as a USB disk… it is not recognized,

The only way to have it again available is to reboot the router.

some one else has this problem?

Do you plug in something else in the usb port ?
Maybe some power issues.
If I getting problems with them I always putting a active usb switch between, to gain more power to the connected devices.

A) Starting from a clean config, with RB5009 just rebooted, everything is fine
B) plugging in a k5160 USB LTE stick, it works fine
C) after some hours (no more than 12 hours) the LTE disappears
D) USB power reset, no effect
E) unplug the stick and plug it again, no effect
F) remove the stick and plug a simple USB pendrive, not recognized
G) remove everything from the USB port
H) reboot the RB5009
I) insert again the USB LTE or the pendrive, both are recognized
J) after some hours, back to step A)

So… when the problem occurrs, seems that the USB port is not able to recognize anything until a reboot
I also tested by putting in the middle a self powered USB hub, but no effect

i have sames issues on rb5009

What did you connected to the 5009 to experience the issue?

To be fully honest, as I explained to the MikroTik support: there are 3 main scenarios:

  1. the IP address of the LTE disappears, but the LTE stick is there, listed in the 5009’s interfaces.
In this case, i can disable and enable again the stick, and it starts working again
  2. as 1) but disable\enable the stick has no effect.
In this case I can using the USB power reset and the LTE restarts working
  3. this is the worst case, where the LTE is no more present in the interface list
Resetting the USB power has no effect
I can remove the LTE and plug any other USB devices and are not recognized
The only way to solve is to reboot the unit

Do not know if it is a SW or HW problem but for sure it is a 5009’s problem, according to me.

One thing to try is setting just the “IPv4” option in the APN Profile, instead of “auto”, as the “IP Type”.

Thanks.

IPv6 is disabled in my case.

Fair enough. More that if disabled under /ipv6, you have to change the APN under /interface/lte/apn so the ip-type=IPv4 as well.

Under /ipv6 is DISABLED since I do not need it
and at APN level also

Anyway… when the LTE disappears, also connection a simple USB flash pendrive does not work anymore.

Some older Huawei modem had issues with IPv6, but you’ve disabled it in both places, so I dunno.

I’d add lte,!packet,!raw as a topic /system/logging, reboot, and collect a supout.rif file & email that and what you’ve seen to support@mikrotik.com

Already did one week ago when I opened the case.

Moreover the stick works fine on other two routers (ADB and Sercom) and, of course, on the Windows laptop

thanks

I have a related issue, though, with hAP ac3: since ROS 7.14, the usb stick, used to host containers, is sometimes recognized, sometimes not, and (also) causes random reboots every few hours, or, in best case, every 1-2 days. Another hAP ac3, with another usb stick - same behavior.
Needless to say, the very same usb sticks work/worked flawlessly with ROS versions prior to 7.14, and at windows computers. I have opened a support ticked [SUP-149159] regarding random reboots (at the time of the opening the tickets I didn’t know what causes them), but no response from the support.

I investigated a little bit and found a strange thing.
I was running ROS 7.14 and I upgraded to 7.14.2 to see if there are improvements.
With 7.14.2 the LTE is no more disappearing, it is there, but without any IP address
and… BINGO!
this is the difference: after exactly 4 hours, the mobile operator disconnects all clients from the BTS
With the same USB stick in a Windows PC, after 4 hours the IP changes
On the RB5009 with 7.14 the LTE disappears
On the RB5009 with 7.14.2 the LTE is still there without any IP address

Downgraded to ROS prior then 7.14… let’s see what happens

Hope it will help! Btw, one more similar case, involving USB and RB5009: http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/v7-14rc-testing-is-released/173569/1

Downgraded from 7.14.2 to 7.13.5: same behavior as 7.14.2

I connected the stick using a USB HUB, as suggested by support.
