nothing stops Mikrotik from changing how /ip/hotspot works internally

Methinks its not possible.

... in 7.22beta1, it seems this "hotspot-over-wireguard" was added:

• hotspot - allow WireGuard interface type;

Now I have not tested it yet, but still think it's a worthwhile concept.
