Hi
I have an customer asking if we can use a Mikrotik product to connect his printer. The printer need to been i an location where it is not possible to use an cable connection. The printer has not built in wireless. Is it possble to use something like mAP, as an printer server? Cable between the mAP and the printer, and then wireless from the router/AP
There is no print-server funcionality built-in any of Mikrotik’s devices so short answer is NO.
Does the printer have Ethernet port? If yes then you can use eg. mAP as WiFi-cable converter and connect printer to client’s network with such trick.
I agree with BartoszP. You essentially need a wireless bridge. Wireless bridges convert WiFi connection to Ethernet.
In some instances where the distance to existing access points was a bit far I found the mAP did not have enough antenna gain to work consistently and required a wAP to work well. But the mAP is a really cool device and has many applications.
