Using the forum by email

Discourse has a function to use the forum by mail - including opening a thread by sending a message to an address connected to particular forum section, replying to a post by mail etc.

Could you please enable that functionality?

Don't get your hopes up.

What for? Does it have any sense? Opening the possibility to be flooded by e-mail started topics?

Please no.
Makes it that much easier to flood this place with spam.

Convenience. Privacy. (not having to enable JavaScript) Usability and accessibility too.

Visually impaired users who can see only text (usually with a screen reader) would not have the burden of fancy browser UI.

I have never seen this on any Discourse forum which enabled email functionality.

If anyone wants to do mischief, one will do it anyway. Or are you suggesting technical mailing lists are always flooded?

Could be. Have you been a moderator? Have you read and classifed all posts to decide if it is a spam or not?

I miss newsgroups too.

WCAG accessibility statement https://www.discourse.org/accessibility

I don’t see why you are sending me to an accessibility statement by the creators of software which does have the functionality I am asking for and which is deliberately disabled here.

No, I have not been a moderator. Have you been visually impaired?

I am quite confused by the aggressive reactions to a kind request.

It's not aggressive. Simple questions are considered too offensive. Do you expect that all have to agree with your point of view?
Just to quote:

The team building Discourse has set out to create discussion software that is free, open source, and accessible to all.
To guide our ongoing effort to build accessible software we follow the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Discourse has also undergone accessibility audits from external experts and automated accessibility tools.
If you find a problem that makes it difficult for you to use Discourse, send an email to accessibility@discourse.org. When describing the problem please include details about your web browser and any accessibility software you are using.

You can discuss with Discourse team if the statement is false.

No, think not the level you think of. We fought to have the simplest UI possible. It could be tailored to your needs and IMHO flattened to almost no fancy frames.

It's not aggressive. Simple questions are considered too offensive. Do you expect that all have to agree with your point of view?

There are different forms of disagreement. I very much welcome reasonable and amicable argumentation, however loaded questions are not that:

Another approach in your disagreement is:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_probability

by assuming that what is probable (mail flood) is granted. Additionally, it ignores the fact that the forum system requires registration, and there are certain user access levels that can be used as permissions to various functionality (including the one being requested).

You can discuss with Discourse team if the statement is false.

As I said in my previous reply, I don't understand what you are suggesting to discuss with them. They have already created the functionality and I am just kindly asking that to be enabled here:

https://www.discourse.org/features (find the string 'mail' in the page)

In any case, the argument of visual impairment is only part of my earlier answer. - Having a functional deficiency is not a requirement for better usability/privacy.

All this fuss for nothing.

It won't be activated. Period. No one cares what you write or what you reply to the moderators.
The MikroTik staff has had enough of emails in the past and doesn't intend to have the same problems again.

Contact them at support@mikrotik.com (by e-mail, that you like so much)
and have them respond to you directly, so you can stop all this fuss on the forum.

All this fuss for nothing.

Maybe to you it is nothing, maybe to another it is something.

There is no "fuss". There is a polite question, followed by other questions which were answered and so on - a forum discussion.

I believe this is the right forum section for the particular subject.

It won't be activated. Period. No one cares what you write or what you reply to the moderators.

I have no idea who is a mod. Are you authorized to speak for the team?

As indicated, file your request to support@ mikrotik.com.

Only admins can decide what will happen.
