Before an upgrade: Remember to make backup/export files before an upgrade and save them on another storage device; Make sure the device will not lose power during upgrade process; Device has enough free storage space for all RouterOS packages to be downloaded. What's new in 7.20.8 (2026-Jan-30 11…

Netinstall formats the entire disk. How many sector write caused by a single Netinstall? Can this be estimated?

Assuming 512 byte sectors, a 16MB flash has 32768 sectors. Format might write each one (but not necessarily, formatting modern file systems only writes metadata on a few percent of sectors), installation of ROS will write at least 25k sectors (12MB data). So we might estimate that netinstall will c…

Do we have a public statement of how long-term release schedule is like? Does it work like in the 6.x era?

I dont recall any public statement about 6.x long-term release regarding schedule or commitment either so yeah pretty much the same, it will be out when MT decides its ready...

Well, if they follow their old schema we will see 7.21.4 in long-term soon-ish.

In 6.x we used to have stable and long-term developed in parallel... for example 6.49.12 was stable, then 6.49.13 long-term, then 6.49.14-6.49.17 stable and finally 6.49.18-6.49.19 as both stable and long-term... And we might as well expect 7.20.9 as a next long-term, nobody really knows except som…

Well yes but at least it is somewhat predictable, not like “even is ltr, odd is stable” but we can generally know what release is going to be promoted to ltr That's what the community expects in the 6.x era. I just hope that they somehow wisen up and realize predictably is appreciated, valued even,…

What you describe ... was only happening with 6.49 ... because that was the ultimately last ROS v6 release. During normal v6 lifetime, releases "shifted" through channels. E.g. when 6.A.x was released into stable channel, 6.(A-1).y was (more or less automatically and immediately) made the actual lo…

My point was that there was no official statement from MT how they intend to release LTS except for this comment: [image] V7.20.7 [long-term] is released! Announcements The point of LTS is that features are not added, it is a stabilized version. Only critical f…

Again: according to practice we've seen in v6 (and there's no indication that MT will do things differently in v7 either ... so IMO that's what we should expect to happen), "no new features are added" to a particular "major.minor" chain of versions. E.g.: currently LTS is 7.20.8 ... if there will be…

V7.20.8 [long-term] is released!
