VLAN and Passthrough

Hello everyone,

I have been struggling to get a configuration of VLANs working. The purpose of the set up would be to be able to have modems in Passthrough mode pass their connection on through a VLAN so that e.g. 3 modems can be run over a single long cable and be split up again at the other end.

Maybe a little drawing will help
All devices are Mikrotk (RBM33G and RB4001) on ROS v7.15.3

I have tried so many options that listing my current consfig would probably not make sense but if someone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome.

Thanks

A topic which is really going to help you:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/using-routeros-to-vlan-your-network/126489/1

This is indeed a very complete topic, with 296 posts going back to January 2019. I do get the general concepts but am confused on the actual configuration and how this translates in ROS7 (if different from ROS6).

Any rough outline would already be much appreciated

Apart from understanding the topic, mentioned by @erlinden, the only issue is to make a modem pass-trough configuration in each of RBM33G … each using different VLAN ID for its “modem traffic” (article, linked below, uses plain ethernet port as passthrough interface, I guess you can create VLAN interface off physical ethernet port and use that VLAN interface as passthrough interface) … but can use same VLAN ID (or untagged) for management.
