I would like to setup a VPN connection so that when I am out of the office I can remote into my lab - I have been successful in setting up a local VPN connection (LAN-LAN) using this how to :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRByWKO0kM4 - In that scenario this was good for a bsic tutorial on profiles pools and users ID’s but obviously not good for my intended final purpose.
Looking at this link
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Interface/PPTP
what happens when the remote client is not int he same subnet ? Thats always my scenario - I am out in the world usually on site at a client location on their Wifi of tethered and I need to remote home via VPN -
Do i simply forward port 1723 calls from the WAN to the gateway ?
Just configure a L2TP on your Tik. Some good how tos out there for it. No need to port forward.
OK eeee -
tried this one -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBlUaZw9uNU
looks like its from an earlier version - based on SHa VS sha1 etc - I followed it and still cant connect from my win8 laptop (tethered externally) I can pin my wan IP from my ISP but cant connect using Lt2P -
is there a better link you can suggest ?
Well that was the video I was going to point you towards. I have watched all of his videos and read his material. I have been able to get everything working first time around just following his stuff… not sure what the hiccup is…
Followed this thread for that detail and essentially recreated all the steps -http://www.urosvovk.com/step-by-step-how-to-configure-a-pptp-vpn-server-on-mikrotik-routeros/
Still would not connect - then I went to quick set and saw the VPN check markand checked it and set a PW - and I can connect externally
