I have a customer that has 2 sites and a fiber linking those 2 sites. He has some computers, servers and internet access in site A and wants to “move” the internet service to site B where they have some computers and need access to site A’s servers. Is it possible to achieve it using vlans for wan/lan on same fiber? Customer has a RB2011 and a RB750+ and the media converters. It’s ok to reconfigure everything at this point.
Let’s say for this example, we will use:
site A network: 192.168.1.0/24
site B network: 192.168.2.0/24
wan ip: 1.2.3.4
If there is just a single public IP address available, it must be up at just one of the two routers, so please be more clear about the exact meaning of “move” and the exact model of the 750 (I haven’t found what rb750+ might be).
If the “rb750+” has a more powerful CPU than the 2011 so you want it to terminate the internet uplink but due to its lower number of Ethernet ports as compared to the 2011, you need to physically use it at site B, you may use one VLAN on the fiber link to forward the WAN to site B and do the routing and NATing there, and another VLAN on the fiber link to extend the LAN subnet of site B also to site A or to create an interconnection subnet between site A and site B or to extend a subnet dedicated for site A from site B. So explain in more detail what you actually want to achieve, and also what is the internet uplink download and upload speed as it has an impact on what would be the best setup.
WAN not need a Vlan, only configure your router of B side like the A side for routing and nating with the ISP. If both LAN networks can see between itself, on LAN side you don’t need do nothing more.
Now, if the ISP give your Internet service over fiber, you need another stretch of fiber, UTP cable or a couple of antennas to connect between your RB2011 and RB750. You can use the same kind of fiber, but you need the compatible media converters respectively (Usually singlemode) and do the respective splices.
