WDS via wifi-qcom on a Netmetal AX

Hello,

I have 3 vehicles between which I would like to exchange data via WLAN. If the vehicles are within range of each other, the connection should be established automatically. If two vehicles have no connection to each other but to the third vehicle, the connection should be established via the third vehicle.

So far I have realized this with one NetMetal AC2 AP on each vehicle by configuring them in mode: ap bridge with WDS mode dynmic.

Now I have bought several NetMetal AX and have noticed that the new wireless package wifi-qcom no longer has a WDS option. Can anyone confirm this? Or am I just too stupid to find the option. I can’t find any information on this in the documentation either.

The old wireless package obviously cannot be installed either, or I am not shown any wifi interfaces. Or am I just doing something wrong? I first uninstalled the wifi-qcom.npk and then installed the wireless.npk + reboot.

How could the above scenario be implemented with the new wifi-qcom package?

Ole

Hello,

I encountered the same problem. Nstreme/NV2 and WDS are not supported in the Netmetal AX. The answer from Mikrotik: We will see what we can do in the future and if more users request the same addition.

So anyone with the same problem please contact Mikrotik.

Support’s response to my query:

“As of today, WDS is not directly supported for newer wifi-qcom drivers, hence WiFi6/AX devices - the driver set status is not final yet and is being updated, no ETA or timeline can be given yet.”

When I asked how I can set up a mesh network with the AX devices without HWMP+ and WDS, I did not receive an answer from support.

Greetings,
I don't know if you've solved the problem. However, if the devices are connected to a router via the same cable, I've configured them so that the wireless connection can be switched quickly between devices without losing connection. This configuration may vary depending on your device usage. I'm configuring the device to be ideal, to avoid overloading the device's processor and memory. Currently, one device is WAP AC, and the other is WAP AX. As you mentioned, the AX "wifi-qcom" drivers don't include WDS. If the devices are connected to the same router via an Ethernet cable, my simple configuration will solve your problem. If you're connecting the devices far from each other, configure one device as an AP and the other as a Station Bridge. Don't let Mesh work this way. However, two devices on the same wired network communicate very quickly, instantly switching to the other if there's a connection problem or when the distance is longer. Regards,
