Web Proxy is using a lot of Bandwidth

The web proxy is sending a lot of traffic out to the internet. My bandwidth usage increases by 3 fold when the web proxy is on. This is defeating the overall goal of using the proxy. The goal is for clients to used the cached web pages so less internet bandwidth is used. I have seen a lot about PCC with web proxy, but I am not sure if that is what I need… My understanding of the web proxy, is to cache web pages and then send them directly to clients that are trying to browse to that page, which would cut internet bandwidth usage.

Thank you in advance

this happened to me too.

i called the isp and was complaining why my net was so slow. they said my upload was pretty much full (i had 3.25down/.75up) … it was very very counter-productive.

my version was 4.5 and i am on a RB600A … i dont know if this issue is reflected on version 5beta?

this is very frustrating.

I am using this on a production router v3.30 Is this an issue that has been fixed in the newer versions, 4.10 maybe ?

no

Did you ensure that the web proxy is firewalled off from being exploited by users on the Internet? The proxy wouldn’t randomly upload things by itself.

cylent do you use PCC
rumiclord what you hae and what you need

Please just block your open proxy port for unwanted proxy use. Your upload was higher because your proxy was using from outside so block your proxy port and solve your problem. I’m let you know what to do in your firewall rule just understand and make a rule, chain will be ‘input’ protocal ‘tcp’ dst.port will be your proxy port maybe 3128 or 8080 whatever you have, in.interface will be your public interface and action willbe ‘drop’. Make a firewall rule like it and then start your webproxy.

Thanks

I have actually tried that already, with no luck. See the post below.
