I am about to test out zabbix and nagios for network monitoring
What are you guys using? What has been your experience with zabbix or nagios?
Or do you use paid software like solarwinds or prtg?
Please share
Thanks

hi,
my opinion is this if you are a full blown mikrotik shop then you can use “the dude” for quick and easy nms, but if you want nms to be accessible by customer or 3rd party entity, you can use zabbix or any other open source nms of your liking provided you can support it. I personally prefer cacti for WISP/ISP setup, just my 0.2$
Home:
Nems (= nagios)
But also testing cacti.
At work it’s PRTG.
Obversium CE edition
The Dude, on a RB1100AHx4 Dude Edition with internal SSD disks
and about what @loloski wrote, I use it (on a dedicated separated hEX with a microSD) also for customers
Switched a couple years ago from Observium to Librenms (it’s a fork of the project - https://www.librenms.org/ ), I also run a Dude server on a CHR VM, it’s great to see what’s happening quickly, and easily/quickly connect to devices. Librenms is also setup a syslog server for all devices, gives me all my history and bandwidth usage info if needed.
I dont think i like The Dude
it looks too ugly and specific to mikrotiks
I want something that i can extend to do more like monitor hosts and other things
So i might be going with Zabbix, liking it over Nagios so far
With The dude I monitor also Cambium, Ubiquiti and Ceragon devices, ESXi, virual (and real) machines, etc.
Not only MikroTik
LibreNMS integrated with Graylog (syslog), oxidized (backups), smokeping (latency monitoring) and weathermaps (network maps). We use it for monitoring and 95% billing.
NetXMS and Ansible
+1 for dude, probably look ugly .. for me is with little outdated interface however big advantige is the trhouput statistics per link map … You can have a very good overview where and what happen with the traffic and network … Also scripting on event, snmp (limited but do the job) etc..
Right now testing out zabbix and nagios
and if i dont like those, will checkout elastic stack
and possibly prometheus/grafana/loki also
i honestly want one app that will so all of monitoring for everything, from network, to server to application to logs
i want one dashboard for everything, similar to splunk but i want OSS
We have Dude for fast overview, what’s working, what’s not, and for some Mikrotik management, Zabbix for graphing and alerting, and Graylog (based on Elastic) for logging. We wanted all in one also in beginning, but after some time we realized why there are so much specialized tools available All in one solution sounds good only in theory.
