Winbox 3 beta

Just installed Winbox 3. Two comments:

When I launch it, even if I do nothing else with it, it eats up one entire CPU until I quit it. It does what I ask it to, but my fans rev all the way up and it acts like it’s mining bitcoins in the background. I’m running it on a Mac under Parallels, as I have always run winbox. I’m assuming this is the new “neighbors” function, set a little too aggressively?

I’m a little disappointed in the implementation chosen for the groups feature. I had envisioned a folder setup, so that when collapsed all my choices would fit on one screen without scrolling, and I could just “drill down” to the router I wanted, again with a minimum of scrolling. Now either I still have to scroll, or I have to click a pulldown, click a box, type a group expression, and click a filter button, which is a lot more busy work. Plus, you have to click in the router area (select a router you don’t really want) at least once to activate scroll-wheel scroll, which may be a limitation of Windows (on the Mac, you get used to being able to wheel-scroll wherever the mouse is hovering, and I get caught short every time this fails to happen).

Groups as they are implemented are actually even more usable if you treat them as keywords. I can name a device’s “group” with its location, tower, and AP/CPE/or other function, then pull up all the units on a tower, all the units in a town, all the CPEs, and so on. So it’s still a good feature, and if you ever wanted to add the folder thing on top of it, they wouldn’t get in each other’s way.

Load Previous Session - not work!

Bugs in Winbox 3:

I have a list of devices automatically imported from previous Winbox version. When trying to modify one of these entries by adding to them a group name, those items disappear from the list. Even selecting the specific group in the dropdown menu does not help. It is necessary to close Winbox and reopen it to see those entries show up again.

Adding groups to devices and then using again Winbox 2 will make all the groups disappear from the devices. I understand that this could be a behaviour of Winbox 2 which removes unknown fields from device entries. Maybe it should be stated on the known issues.

All display settings are lost between closing Winbox 3, and starting a new Winbox 3 session to the same device, regardless of the setting of “Load previous session”.

Thanks, all mentioned bugs submitted to be fixed

I launched winbox 3 today and almost had a heart attack. Of about 100 predefined sites, all had disappeared but about a dozen.

Turns out, if you leave the Neighbors tab selected in winbox when you exit, when it comes back up it is still in the Neighbors tab – then when you switch to the Managed tab, only some of your defined sites are displayed.

If you quit and then relaunch winbox with the Managed tab active, all your sites show up fine.

same problem for Ubuntu 14.04

Why there is not crypto-key auth option like in SSH?

On my netbook with 1024x600 res submenu of System too long, last item Users is not visible.

Please, add caption with name/ID of the router to upper panel (where Uptime, Memory, Time, Date and CPU already). I need to see name when winbox.exe is in fullscreen mode on my netbook!

and finally, why, the heck, there is no native linux winbox version? Is it a big deal to switch to multiplatform toolkit?

Webfig works in all OS

Please, think about possibility to add option to open another winbox session directly from IP/neighbors list connecting to selected item from the list.

Of course, these devices could be in different networks with no route from the winbox running computer, but the main winbox client (the one I have neighbors list opned) could provide the connectivity for newly invoked winbox session (something like tunnel) that would appear like the first ROS device is connecting to the second ROS device within its accessibility range.

It is something like telneting from one ROS device to another, just not via telnet but via winbox.

Hope I explained it well, otherwise I am openend to your questions in order to clarify what I meant.

Winbox works perfect under Wine …

I like to have a option to add a confirmation message to “Remove” and “Disable” , using keystrokes its now to easy to do something wrong …

I am unable to use this in Win7 x64.
The window opens with a list of previously saved devices, but nothing appears in the top panel.

In Linux it is better, but I see the same issues others have mentioned with new devices not saving until winbox is restarted.

Hi,

Guys, when I run winbox shows me this window and all controls are gone

That fourth button in the corner, with two arrows, I bet it is the one causing this issue. Uninstall or disable.

OK i will try, but the button is from TeamViewer
You were right disable the fast connection in teamviewer helped

At first I find winbox 3 very neat.

Nevertheless I have found some things I do not really like.

When there are multiple windows open inside the session these can be closed by hitting Esc (except terminal, but I don’t mind)
But when all windows are closed the next hit of Esc will close the complete session. I do not like that behavior.
If you want to quickly close all windows, you have to watch out you won’t hit it to many times.

Another thing is when a connection is being made and cancel is clicked, winbox is closed completely.
It would be better to end up in the list again.
Now if you have clicked the wrong device and click cancel, winbox is closed and has be started again.

Thanks for the “esc” report, we can repeat the issue.
About cancel button it was reported earlier, and also has been accepted as bug.
