I am running windows 7 - 64 on the pc that I normally use for the winbox connection to my Mikrotik units. I am not sure how this happend but when opening winbox it is very slow to detect the mikrotik units on my network - even the routet that it is directly connected to take up to a minute to be detected. and if i attempt to connect to the mac addr on a new unit the connection attempt just times out everytime.
My lan connection is otherwise working fine. I have updated the drivers to win 7/64 and it still dosen’t work. I can connect to mikrotik units through the IP addr, but the mac connections always times out. Any ideas what could have hit my system?
I have search and tried everything i could find including including redownload winbox, delete %user%/appdata/mikrotik. Nothin has helped so far. I took a completely new router and on start up I could connect via the IP. I then clicked on “delete default scripte” and restarted winbox again i took a couple of minutes but winbox then found the router and listed the mac addr. and 0.0.0.0 for the IP. when trying to connect through the mac addr. the connection times out on port 20561.
I have two operating system on my PC and when I boot in the other windows operating system I have no problem. So I could solve it this way around, but it still bothers me, why it won’t work with my normal windows installation.
I have also tried to disable the firewal / antivirus and this does not help either.
PC is connected by cable and I think I have tried all possible combinations and the are all showing the same slow discovery and all times out when trying to connect via mac. The OS’s boot independently.
The system where winbox is working ok: win 7 ultimate /32 bit - avira anitivirus
The system where winbox is very slow: win 7 Ultimate / 62 bit - avast internet security.
But as mentioned I have tried to disable the avast internet security, which did not help, and it did work in the initially. It some change in my system that has caused winbox to become very slow to detect units on the lan and also to time out when trying to connect to a mac.
I had been usin a VPN PRO service from “hidemyass” and the "#¤%¤#!&!! software installed a virtual net adapter called TAP-Win32 Adapter V9 after I removed this, The problem was solved and winbox works perfectly again - and the VPN also works.
Had the same problem… but solved… i have VMWare instaled with 2 virtual network adapters:
VMware Network Adapter VMnet1
VMware Network Adapter VMnet8
had to disable it… and Winbox goes as intend.
I had VMWare player and Virtual Box installed on my Windows 7 - 64Bit machine and disabled all of the associated virtual adapters but this did not fix the problem. Because I was no longer using Virtual Box, I decided to uninstall it and finally the problem is gone! I’ve been trying to figure this out for 6 months! I really hope this helps someone else.
