I have installed the latest MikroTik WinBox (WinBox Loader v2.2.11).
When I run WinBox with Wine, the dialog box open, but as soon as I connect to any MikroTik RouterOS PC, it freezes, and I am forced to quit the application.
I ran into this same problem on opensuse. I noticed that when I connected to certain version of MT it would freeze. I know version 2.9.42 works, and 2.9.27 does not. Maybe all of the newer versions work, but I have not had time to test this.
i dont think it has something to do with winbox version.
i had problems with freezing winbox on same router. it was all ok but when i upgraded wine it started to freeze. now everything is fine again. they made something in wine and no more freezing
I’ve had troubles off and on with freezing. If a router continues to freeze I delete the application data for the wine profile, and it usually works after that. Using Feisty with RouterOS 2.9.34/35 and winbox 2.2.10
I have ubuntu gutsy gibbon with wine 0.9.46 and winbox 2.2.13.
If i connecting to the local mikrotik router with mac address, no problem, works fine,
but if connecting with ip address the local or remote mikrotik router, not work, ‘frozen’.
I try copy the winbox.exe in the wine’s system32 library, but not work too.
I’m using linux and doing lots of mikrotik administration on daily basis and i’ve noticed that most recent versions of winbox/wine has started freezing up if RouterOS version is below 2.9.40 (2.9.40 itself works fine) .. sometimes it happens that it unfreezes after a few minutes or does not freeze at all, but that’s really rare so i’m not relying on it. A while ago it became impossible to connect to 2.8.x too, because winbox just disappears somewhere in the background and i am forced to kill it. I have no idea why that happens, but in such cases i just stick with ssh or use a windows laptop if there is one nearby.. seems much simpler and easier solution than bugging mikrotik support.
