Bug Report: RouterOS 7.23 / 7.23.1 – Throughput Regression and Winbox 4 Issues
Subject: Severe performance regression and Winbox 4 connection failure after upgrading to RouterOS 7.23.x
Dear MikroTik Support,
I would like to report a reproducible issue affecting multiple devices after upgrading to RouterOS 7.23 and 7.23.1.
This report includes only observations and test results — no remote access is provided.
1. Environment
-
Several MikroTik routers deployed in retail locations (various ARM/ARM64 models).
-
Each MikroTik is connected via Ethernet to an external LTE router (Orange network).
-
MikroTik devices do not use internal LTE modems.
-
Configuration is minimal: basic NAT, DHCP, firewall, bridge.
2. Observed issues after upgrading to RouterOS 7.23.x
A) Severe WAN → LAN throughput drop
After upgrading to 7.23.x:
-
Speed measured directly on the LTE router: ~60 Mbps
-
Speed measured behind the MikroTik: 5–10 Mbps
-
IP camera streams become unusable
-
Latency and jitter increase significantly
This behavior does not occur on RouterOS 7.22.3.
Downgrading back to 7.22.3 immediately restores normal throughput.
B) Winbox 4 cannot connect
-
Winbox 4 fails to load interface lists and does not establish a session
-
Winbox 3 connects without issues
-
The problem appears only after upgrading to 7.23.x
-
This suggests a regression in the new API or interface enumeration
3. Reproduction steps
-
Connect MikroTik via Ethernet to an LTE router (Orange).
-
Upgrade RouterOS to 7.23 or 7.23.1.
-
Perform a speed test behind the MikroTik → throughput drops drastically.
-
Attempt to connect using Winbox 4 → connection fails.
-
Downgrade to RouterOS 7.22.3 → throughput and Winbox 4 functionality return to normal.
The issue is reproducible across multiple locations and devices.
4. Additional observations
-
CPU usage remains low (5–10%).
-
Bridge hardware offload appears enabled, but real throughput is abnormally low.
-
The issue occurs even with a minimal configuration.
-
The problem affects devices even when LTE is handled by an external router, so it is not related to internal LTE modems.
-
This may indicate a regression in:
-
fast‑path / fast‑track
-
bridge hardware offload
-
connection tracking
-
or the new API used by Winbox 4
-
5. Request
Please confirm:
-
whether this is a known issue in RouterOS 7.23.x,
-
whether a fix is planned for an upcoming release,
-
and whether any recommended workaround exists.
This report includes all observations needed to reproduce the issue.
No remote access will be provided.
