iperf3 Done.

Interested in what you see above? Head over to https://forum.openwrt.org/t/call-for-testers-openwrt-support-for-mikrotik-hap-ax-s-e62iugs-2axd5axt/253024 and have fun.

That is incorrect.

I have several hAP ax S devices and all of them have always used 160 MHz for 5 GHz.

To be fair, there is not much choice for 160 MHz wide channels, see:
Wi-Fi channels cheatsheet
two or at the most three (this latter with a complex configuration and low power, at least in ETSI).

Pretty sure before this you also believed like I did too that the SoC runs ARMv5 only. This severely hampered container support, as exemplified here https://tangentsoft.com/mikrotik/wiki?name=Container+Limitations, to wit:

ARMv5
There’s a special case to be aware of here: MikroTik have released a few products now based on the EN7562 SoC, which includes a low-spec ARMv5 core:

2024 hEX Refresh
2025 hEX S Refresh
2026 hAP ax S
These are billed as “ARM32” but that term encompasses many versions and variants which aren’t all compatible.16

While these RouterOS devices will all run container.npk, there are nearly zero pre-built container images. You may well end up needing to porting the desired containers yourself, atop one of the few suitable base container images. The most broadly useful is their debian image.

The general points above remain true: if you start with a container that does something other than FROM debian:… in its Dockerfile, changing that line to refer instead to arm32v5:debian and rebuilding is unlikely to work. You're in for a manual porting effort.

For perspective, the Raspberry Pi foundation selected a chip using the ARMv6 architecture for their initial product offering in 2012, then switched to the ARMv7 architecture for the Pi 2 and 3, then ARMv8 (a.k.a. aarch64 or ARM64) for the Pi 4 and 5. ARMv5 is seriously old tech!

Thanks for sharing. I am dreaming of 1.1GBit/s ... It looks almost like MT has crippled this device on purpose in several aspects.

I'm honestly impressed that I got the results above. Wasn't expecting that, given the many reports of the wireless performance of this device around here, and even the best case scenario doesn't come close to what can be seen and deduced from the test. What's even more impressive is how 'clamped down' the device seems to be under RouterOS. In the manufacturer's perspective, it must be some business decision to do it this way.

The good MikroTik people did not cripple down this device on purpose. It is more likely that they can't keep up with upstream Linux Kernel improvements or doing hard to integrate the vendor drivers in their old and heavily patched 5.x Kernel (networking stack).

EN7523.

Clever, very clever :winking_face_with_tongue: .

@braveheartleo Where is the iperf3 server running on? Directly on the hap?

Interesting statement in this context:
