Mikrotikish<->English conversion table/dictionary

This is a reference table/dictionary I put together for my personal use, maybe it is useful to someone else :slightly_smiling_face:.

It is obviously half-jokingly written, and more than a little tongue-in-cheek, don't take it too seriously.

.. still ...

 Have you now taken to writing in Mikrotikish?

No mention of "could not reproduce the issue on our end" ? sad.

@jaclaz should compose new song for RATM (Rage Against the Mikrotik) - “Producing Bugs in the Name”

I made one with an AI tool, with a few manual refinements is not that bad.

(Mikrotik) Bugs are in the air

Verse 1
I set up my router on a Tuesday night
Thought I had it configured right
Three AM, the whole thing froze
Lost my connection, lost my mind
Updated the firmware, crossed the line
Now my bandwidth's barely there at all

Pre-Chorus
Every patch just breaks it more
Rolling back, I've done this before

Chorus
These MikroTik bugs drive me crazy
One step forward, ten steps lazy
I reboot it, pray it stays alive
Just trying to keep my network alive
These MikroTik bugs, they don't care
Bugs are in the air

Verse 2
Spent a hundred hours on the forum thread
Reading about devices half-dead
Someone said it's the VLAN settings wrong
I checked it twice, I checked it thrice
One more restart might just do the price
But the queue keeps dropping packets still

Pre-Chorus
Every fix just spawns a new one
This is not my idea of fun

Chorus
These MikroTik bugs drive me crazy
One step forward, ten steps lazy
I reboot it, pray it stays alive
Just trying to keep my network alive
These MikroTik bugs, they don't care
Bugs are in the air

Bridge
Downgrade, upgrade, pray
Reset it all again today
I know the pain won't go away
But I'll be back here anyway

Final Chorus
These MikroTik bugs drive me crazy
One step forward, ten steps lazy
I reboot it, pray it stays alive
Just trying to keep my network alive
These MikroTik bugs, yeah they own me
But I'll never leave you, you're my only

Now we need a catchy tune and @Amm0 to convert it so that it can be played on devices with beeper ...

Here’s a pop version, fun and catchy:

https://suno.com/s/rdiDAV74otwuOSZ4

Here’s a folk/country version that more accurately captures the frustration and raw emotion:

https://suno.com/s/mNnn2UygsgfTDUp6

I concur, the "folk/country" version is better at expressing the love/hate relationship, perfect!
:slightly_smiling_face:

and it is still catchy enough, good work!
:+1:

Amazing!

I kindly request to add Mikrotish "improved stability". Or more generally "improved".

You havn't try edgerouter devices fews years ago.... LOL

It's in party true, but mikrotik is not the worst on the market ; at this price, it's incredible to have the support over the years on soft and hard.

Not sure products like ExtremNetworks/Fortinet/Stormshield/Aruba/Cisco do the same, at the same price...

Sure it is not. :slightly_smiling_face: But that doesn't mean that it could not be better.

Yep, but the price seems like an independent variable from support.

For an entry level device, under 100 Euro, it is fantastic, when you start buying devices in the 500-1000 Euro range it becomes not so good.
For me (as a a hobbyist, not professional) it is fine, but for people that actually need to sell these devices (and services) to customers, there are (IMHO) still so many corners that need to be rounded ...

@jaclaz Great job coming up with the lyrics. I liked the reference to VLANS, and the "spent a hundred hours on the forum thread".

Which AI assistant did you use?

Even without bugs/regressions, a whole song could be written about someone coming from a consumer router to MikroTik after someone recommended it because you could make the network more secure with VLANS. And the steep learning curve involved.

It could describe the "journey", including initial login problems with unreadable password, discovering quickset should never be used after making any changes outside of quickset, finding documentation, getting locked out when trying to configure VLANS, having to use netinstall, or and dealing with device mode, etc.

Recent example: Unable to access new RB5009UPr+S+IN router

This one (the first I could find that did not want my e-mail):

I love the pop version. It perfectly combines the lightheartedness of pop songs with the seriousness of the lyrics.

You really should add some explanation about the Unicorn versions…
Eleanor V8 deserves some attention.

If only I could understand what (the heck) are you talking about ...

Gone in 60 seconds doesn't trigger any connection with Mikrotikish ...

Yes, I can help with that. “Eleanore V8” is something repeatedly mentioned by the user @fischerdouglas. It appears to be a reference to the film Gone in 60 Seconds with Nicolas Cage. The exact joke or meaning behind it is unclear.

In MikroTik terms: “RouterOS 8.”
In English: “RouterOS 8.”

Seriously?
The unicorn?!? The promised and unattainable being?!? Haven't you seen the movie?

How many of us have had more than 3 tickets (even before Jira) closed with the answer "This will be resolved in RouterOS version 7!"

We see reports on the forum of promises for v7 Unicorn that have not been fulfilled to this day.
Some weren't even addressed.

V8, the myth is now different!

If today's RouterOS unicorn is Version 8, how can we not think of puns and jokes about it?!?
And for those who haven't watched Gone in 60 Seconds(1974 version or 2000 version) . And don’t know that the unicorn of Menpphis is a Mustang Shelby GT500 with an insane V8 , please watch it!

I can almost imagine the MikroTik team gathered in the crisis room and @normis saying:

P.S.: The jokes and memes are just a way of showing love. Don't be sad! As soon as we're at an in-person event together, I'll give you a hug.
