It's a mikrotikish reminder to change your password ![]()
Or take next step not using passwords at all.
Use PKI.
I was also using an Ed25519 key (only used passwords with WinBox), but it suddenly stopped working... That's when I lost SSH access with any users other than admin.
It's time to do a factory reset and try again ![]()
None of them are non-ASCII characters… it just stopped working out of the blue without any changes…
Thanks everyone for the help, I’ll look around and try to sort this out.
I got a crash from WinBox4 when trying to delete a "folder" in Files:

With 3200 comments, 44 beta versions and a lot of bug fixes / improvements / regressions in between. Perhaps it’s time to create a separate thread each time a new beta version is released?
Keep putting a good summary at the start and people can go from there. Similar to how the RouterOS announcements are done.
One might think that, after roughly 17 months in beta, a release candidate level of quality would have been reached by now. I would not start new topics while still in beta.
Yes, for sure, b44 must be v1 now !
And still not easy bug reporting or source code auditing...?
It is NOT an open-source project. When you want open-source software, you will have to shop somewhere else.
Seriously? It' so raw and buggy, that there should be at least 40 more betas until even thinking about v1...
Mikrotik needs proper UI designers to get this thing done. Otherwise it will be like this forum in dark mode - which for some reason shows read topics in white text and unread topics in almost-indistinctible gray-on-bluish-dark-gray. Strangely other sites using Discourse are able to make their forum actually readable.
It’s not really about the suitability/progress on Winbox4. It more about readability in the forum.
No one is going to read 3k+ comments. There is an element of carry forward from each beta version in the list of issues unresolved and fixed which the Mikrotik team can continue to post at the opening comment for each new thread.
I figure it would also help the Mikrotik team find and trace bugs against each beta version.
I agree. A user has made a list of open problems, but of course that is always a subjective list and other people may see different problems and/or would not think of the items on the list being a problem.
To keep focus on the open problems it would be better when there is a separate smaller topic where each beta is discussed and there is actually a clear status of where each beta is, what it still needs, and comments can be made about that in particular. That should help MikroTik to develop in the direction of a finished product, instead of the way it is going now.
Any help to import databse hosts from 3.xx vesrions ? ![]()
Could this be changed, so that the grouped tabs are kept together even after switching to other tabs/tab groups. What I mean is that the tab groups should only be broken apart when using Shift + Left-Click too, not by normal click. Let me give an example:
For some property dialogs, such as the PPP Profile, I might prefer to group the tabs like this (tabs with fewer items are grouped together):
If I keep this view then WinBox 4 does remember the group and does restore the grouping even after the application has been restarted.
But if I switch to the General tab, then the grouping of the 4 other tabs is broken apart, and I'll have to manually group them again.
Could you please make the change, so that when I click on General, then back to any of the 4 other tabs, the 4 tabs are still kept together in one group? If I don't want them to be grouped together anymore, I would hold Shift and click on the individual tab headers to remove them one by one (this is currently already implemented).
One important note is that such behavior should be customizable. May be with some setting. In some scenarios it could be useful, in others not, so it could be inconvenient to break them, using additional key.
any workaround for this? im on macos
FEATURE-REQUEST
I would like to suggest an improvement to the WinBox user interface regarding window handling.
Currently, the WinBox main window inherits the size of the login window. From my personal perspective, it would be much more convenient if the login window were decoupled from the WinBox window.
Ideally, I would prefer:
-
A small, compact login window
-
After successful login, a WinBox main window that opens in the size defined by the workspace
At the moment, the WinBox window always opens with the same dimensions as the login window, even when “Open in new window” is enabled. This makes workspace management less intuitive and often requires manual resizing after every login.
Additional UI issue with inner windows:
Another related problem occurs when the WinBox window is resized to a smaller size. If you then open a section such as Interfaces, the inner window may open larger than the available WinBox area. In that case, the user has to manually resize the inner window to be able to see all content.
It would be very helpful if:
-
The inner windows were automatically constrained to the available WinBox window size
-
Especially on the right-top and right-bottom edges, inner windows should not exceed the parent window dimensions
This would significantly improve usability, especially on smaller screens or when working with tiled windows.
Thank you for considering this feature request.
Well, I am actually happy that the login window is sized like the working window, as I have a very long list of saved credentials.
What I do not like so much is that the properties of this window (and other things like font and zoom factor) are saved in one global config file, every time a WinBox closes. As I usually have like 6 WinBox windows open at the same time (on different virtual desktops), I have to close them all and only then I can change things, close it again, and re-open the different sessions to have new settings.
It would be better when the WinBox settings aren’t saved when they haven’t been changed.
(the selection of a router to connect should not be considered a change, or only that should be saved and not all other unchanged settings from that session)
Request 1: Please display the ROS version and processor type in the title bar as per Winbox 3.
Winbox 3 :
![]()
Winbox 4:
![]()
Request 2: Provide an option to have menu flyouts in single column as per Winbox 3 - Much faster to navigate and avoid incorrect selections. Flow to second column only when window size is too small.
Example is System flows a 3 column box when there is more than enough vertical space to show all entries.
