WinBox v4.0.1 released!

Sorry, didn't get the sarcasm. Emoticons like :-) were invented back in the 80s for this reason.

I see we are persisting with this ridiculous window switcher, which I’ve commented on before 📣 WinBox 4 is here 📣 - #3118 by nmt1900

Can we get an option to switch back to the simple dropdown? i find myself moving the mouse a loooong way to switch between windows.

My personal issues and why I’m still avoiding WB4 (I will be forced to use it eventually as time goes and ROS gets new features) is:

  • reduced horizontal space (I don’t want fonts to be too small for just this) - items on right bar could be buttons on top as on WB3, maybe separated with space or some separator; or aligned right
  • missing detail mode listing - useful for lists with small numbers of items
  • missing show categories - useful to make sections in lists, for eg. I was using show categories in containers list where containers was sorted by running status and list items was grouped by status category, writing “WAS” because now it is not possible (after some previous ROS ver.) to sort list by container status any more, hoping that MT will bring that sorting back, this is related to both WB
  • dark mode colors could be better - not a deal breaker but I'm more used to dark gray backgrounds for dark mode

That's what I noticed at first without using it too much and I didn't use it much because of this issues…

I visited WebFig (7.21.3) for the first time in a few months. The first thing I noticed is that the colors in WebFig do not match the colors in Winbox 4. They look similar, but the hex values are clearly different.

In my personal opinion, the contrast in WebFig is better, and the overall readability and ability to scan the interface are much better than in Winbox.

It would be great if you could coordinate with the web development team responsible for the WebFig theme and work more closely together. There is still room for improvement, and the current colors do not feel final yet. In particular, the dark theme is quite difficult to use.

WebFig has dark theme? Where to set it?

WebFig does not have a dark theme (AFAIK). I was referring to the light theme.

Ah ok, thought you are referring to dark as I was in my above post

Yes! (damn this forum for requiring at least 5 characters in a reply)

It's intentional. If you just want to agree or disagree with a post, use the provided :+1:/:-1: buttons.

…and speaking of increasing the signal to noise ratio of forums, let's keep this discussion civil, all right?

Thank you for the first formal release, Mikrotik. I have encountered no errors which stop me from working, and look forward to the usual gradual advances in functionality and useability.

Greatwork guy,

Have a suggestion: can you add the option to display the correct firmware in Winbox, and, if at all possible, push an update?

Thanks

Rudy

If I were the WinBox GUI designer, I would be extremely grateful to receive such detailed and free feedback during development. It feels a bit unappreciated when that feedback goes unheard.

Yeah, at least half of these issues were known and published a year ago during beta...

Eh, I don’t actually know that I agree that the comment editor needed to be its own thing. Maybe just add back Ctrl-M as a shorthand for opening the editor and focusing the comment field. Then you can just go Ctrl-M, insert text, Enter. That’s my main use for the hotkey, at least.

Guys does MT have official icon for for winbox4 that can be used in KDE launcher?

It is in the winbox directory under/assets/img, but for some reason, I can't make it stick.

... OK, now it has stuck.

  • Scrolling quickly through any table view frequently causes it to kinda get stuck.
  • Selecting text using the mouse cursor behaves strangely. It doesn’t register until you’ve moved the mouse cursor a dozen pixels over, making selecting single characters annoying. Sometimes it just won’t start selecting, at all. I think… if you delay moving the mouse cursor for too long (one second or so) after having pressed the button.

You did good job finding all these issues. Some of them can reflect on productivity for those who are using WB4 professionally, MT should deal with them. For me that reduced horizontal space is most annoying, there is a reason why sheets viewers/editors (Excel, Sheets…) don’t have UI elements on left or right side…

Can confirm. Very hard to select. The only exception is Terminal, there is no such problem. Added to my list of issues (#21 in bugs).
