Migration process from our old phpBB instance to Discourse is now done

At least my account isn’t read only anymore. In the past few years I couldn’t post anything, after I had to re-create my account when my first account was deleted for unknown reason.

Yes, XenForo has a much more familiar user experience, but also has all the modern expected features regarding editor, notification, attachment handling, etc… And it scale very well, one forum I frequent is using it with 1.17 millions users and 31 millions posts while staying super snappy (everything’s instantaneous).

One downside is that it costs a fee once, and then about $60 per year for version updates.

Added density toggle component.

It should give some choice to users that prefer more tight design.

In settings I needed to enable routeros syntax. However it seems that highlighter component is also having some issues with CORS. I have the same issue in test env. Will check there for fix first.

Per what I can find there is no option to add these in discourse rich editor interface, but i’ll test and add that bbcode plugin if it works fine in test env. So that that advanced formatting is at least available if required.

Discourse defaults were 10m to give users time to review/edit their posts before sending notifications. For now lowered to 5m. Could lower it further is more such requests come in.

Unfortunately none of these get rid of “ye olde 4:3 on 16:9 pillarbox” empty white bars. Also, navbar text is made smaller but the navbar stays the same width.
On “compact”, the margins and padding between posts are better, but also dividing lines between posts are removed which is not good. Text is also smaller, which I’m not sure why is affected by this setting if there’s a separate setting for text size.
Also on compact, the topic list looks much worse - title being next to the excerpt looks uglier and less readable than if it stayed above it, also even if it’s next to it the columns should probably not have different width on every topic.

Not sure if discourse can show difference in topic list for read/unread entries as all together. I didn’t find any solutions to that in discourse articles. It does however tracks articles that you have read. Blue bulb will appear next to topic if new posts are added there. Designer did note that those are to similar to other colored indicators and he will look into changing them to something differnet.

Would like to know how many users would be interesting in this. Atm I have email input options disables in our instance.

Well - as the most of the users here are more experienced users (like SysOps), Discourse was not the right choice from my perspective. As still mentioned, to much space waste, too fancy and also some functional things are missing like still wrote from other members.

I have no idea what was wrong with phpBB.

Anyway…

I love Mikrotik, but sorry, this board is now just confusing and useless, apart from being ‘fancy’… sorry, that’s just my personal opinion!

Hey hey, let’s not drag WinBox 4 into this.

As a mac user, Winbox4 is the best thing that happened to Mikrotik. Looks modern and works natively on Mac.

I doubt that a forum platform will make you switch to Ubiquiti, where their router software has less capabilities. But you do you.

People acting like any change is the end of the world. And I know this from my day-to-day job where our customers act the same whenever we do any change. I don’t have fingers to count how many customers each day say “WHY WOULD YOU EVEN DO THIS WE’LL SWITCH TO COMPETITORS”, and they never do. Or they do, and come back the next day, because they realize competitors are worse.
Your type is the customers we almost always ignore the feedback, because this toxic feedback does not help anyone.

Yes, there are better forum platforms than Discourse. But at least we still have a forum. There’s also a subreddit for mikrotik.

Is there any way to get rid of this annoyance permanently? We are not blind and are able to find Sign up and Log in buttons in main view…

I think the closed state is really not imported. If we go to Announcements - MikroTik community forum we can see that the old release threads, which normally have all been closed, are now all open to replies.

Then the message is not there.

Simple, no ?

Should be disabled now.

reconsider default guest font view please ..

I think fonts should be the same for both guests and logged in users. Logged in users however get a bit more control through their profile settings to change some interface settings.

OK, no problem. But if I’ve already read the post before a notification is sent to e-mail, why is it being sent anyway? I think it should be cancelled in this case.

That’s great!
But a little issue, in compact mode your MikroTik icon is overlapped with text a little bit.
